Door type

Impact bifold doors

An impact bifold door is a row of hinged glass panels that fold together and stack to one or both sides, so most of the wall opens to the patio. The laminated glass stays in the frame when it's hit, and every door we install is county-approved, with a lifetime labor warranty for the original owner.

Is it right for you?

Where bifold doors fit, and where they don't

Best for

  • Wide patio and lanai walls that should open to the outside
  • Pool decks and outdoor kitchens used for entertaining
  • Openings with room at one or both ends for the panel stack

Not ideal for

  • Exposed walls with no overhang, where a low sill may let in water
  • Small openings; a slider or French door costs less

Pros

  • Opens most of the wall, wider than a slider's clear opening
  • Panels stack to one or both sides
  • Laminated impact glass across every panel

Cons

  • More hinges, rollers and locks to keep adjusted, and the track must stay clear of sand
  • A low, flush sill handles water less well than a raised sill

The work

What we install

We install impact bifold doors for patio, lanai and pool-deck walls: hinged glass panels that fold and stack to one or both sides. A bifold door is $12,000–$20,000 installed; the price varies with size, panel count and options. Large bifold openings can reach about $40,000, depending on the opening size, the number of panels and the height.

The panels are hinged to each other and run on a track. They fold in pairs and stack at one or both ends of the opening.

Impact bifold door questions

How much does an impact bifold door cost?

An impact bifold door is $12,000–$20,000 installed. The price varies with the opening's width and height, the number of panels, the glass, the finish and the sill. Miami-Dade and Broward usually cost more. The in-home estimate is free, and the quote is usually back within 24–48 hours.

Can an impact bifold door cost more than the standard range?

Yes. Most bifold doors we install fall in our standard range, but a large bifold can reach about $40,000. The opening size, the number of panels and the height drive that cost, since each panel adds glass, hinges and hardware. We price your exact opening after the free in-home measure.

How does a bifold door work?

The glass panels are hinged to each other and run on a track at the head and sill. As you open them, they fold together in pairs and stack at one or both ends of the opening. Many systems also have one panel that opens like a regular door for everyday use.

Are your impact bifold doors approved for Miami-Dade and Broward?

Yes. Miami-Dade and Broward are in the High-Velocity Hurricane Zone, so every bifold we install there carries a Florida Product Approval or a Miami-Dade Notice of Acceptance rated for that zone. Not every folding door is impact rated, so we check the exact approval for your opening.

Does an impact bifold door open in or out?

It opens the way its product approval allows. Some approved bifold doors open only outward and some are approved both ways, so there's no single rule for this door type. We check the approval for your opening and confirm the direction when we measure, before anything is ordered.

Bifold or sliding glass door: which should I pick?

Pick a bifold if you want most of the wall to open and you have room for the stacked panels. Pick a slider if you want simpler operation, fewer moving parts and a lower price. Both use laminated impact glass, and we can price both at the same visit.

How many panels can an impact bifold door have?

Approved impact bifolds run from a few panels up to about ten or more, depending on the line, and each approval caps the panel size and the total width. We measure the opening at the free estimate and lay out the panel count and stack direction with you.

Do impact bifold doors keep out rain?

A raised sill handles wind-driven rain better than a low, flush one, and some flush sills aren't rated for water at all. If the wall faces open weather with no overhang, we usually recommend a raised sill. We go over the sill choice with you when we measure.

What care does a bifold door need?

Keep the bottom track and its drains clear of sand and leaves, and wipe the seals now and then. With more hinges, rollers and locks than a slider, the panels may need an adjustment over time to stay aligned. We show you how it works when we finish the install.

Can a bifold door count as an emergency exit?

It can, when the door opens from the room straight to the outside. The Florida Building Code sets the escape-opening rules for each sleeping room, so we check every door against the room and the opening when we measure, before anything is ordered. A garage door doesn't count as one.

How long does an impact door installation take?

One door is often a few hours, and several doors take a day or two. We pull the permit, and the building department sets the review schedule. The in-home estimate is free, and the quote is usually back within 24–48 hours after we measure.

Outstanding job! The installation was completed flawlessly. The team was friendly, punctual, efficient. Kept the are clean throughout the installation. We are very satisfied with the results and highly recommend their service.

The republic team was wonderful from the very beginning to the end. It started with Ryan who was consulting us at the start from the windows type and explained everything very throughly and with patience. He helped us choose the best things for us and was able to help us with pricing as well. Over all Ryan helped us with all the information we needed and answered every question we had when we had them. Now after all contracts/paper work was done They said it would take three days for the installation team to finish all the doors and windows. And they did indeed finish in those three days has they said! Yassel from the installation team were even kind enough to to start off with the rooms of our choice. They were very fast polite and kind. They cleaned everything after themselves making sure to leave no rubble behind. They helped us with our windows and our door frames helping us fix everything. Overall they were fantastic. Very helpful, respectful, and kind! They really did go above and beyond and helped us every step of the way. And I would refer them for any installation of windows and doors l. Thank you Republic team!

Had a great experience working with Daniel and the entire team at Republic Windows & Doors. We worked together for almost 3 years, and throughout that time their communication, professionalism, and organization were always excellent. The team was clear, responsive, and easy to collaborate with on every project. It was truly a pleasure working alongside such a dedicated and professional company. Wishing Daniel and the team continued success!

I had an outstanding experience with Republic Windows and Doors. They installed seven impact windows for me, and every step was top-notch. Ryan, the salesman, was extremely professional during his initial visit—he explained everything clearly, from employee insurance to the high-end tools they use, like premium screws and caulking. Then, Matt and Carlos took over the installation, and they were exceptional—they demonstrated an extraordinary level of dedication, precision, and stamina, ensuring every detail was perfect. Their work ethic was truly outstanding, and they took pride in every step of the process. Plus, the pricing was surprisingly affordable for the quality they delivered. I highly recommend them for any window or door project!

From start to finish, the team of Republic Windows, Doors, & Roofing truly exceeded ALL of our expectations! We had 4 companies bid to replace our condo's sliding doors and windows. Their pricing was on the lower end of competitive BUT not the lowest price. From the onset, the interaction we had with their sales manager, Ryan Didato, was terrific. He was on-time, patient, took his time to walk/talk us through everything, explained the process from start-to-finish, and was available to answer calls/questions I had following our initial interaction. He also didn't "hard sell" us AT ALL which I 100%++++ appreciate. He's the definition of a professional and has the patience of a Saint. After signing our contract, their office team including Debbie, Yiseth, and company took care of everything including submission of plans to HOA and the City of Pompano Beach. They continued to keep us informed regarding ordering windows, etc., as our windows and doors are not standard = all custom. Thank you! Next up: installation. Matheus was the lead on our installation working in tandem with Carlos. WOW! Responsible, respectful, and do they know what they are doing!!! They also covered EVERYTHING before starting to help minimize concrete, drywall, and wood dust. Yes...you will still have some but did they ever help alleviate a lot of clean-up work. They also cleaned up when they finished each day. They didn't take break-after-break...they remained focused and steady = they didn't rush. They did it RIGHT! Plus Matheus has an INCREDIBLE play list on his boom-box that we all enjoyed!! To close, I have remodeled 6 different homes/condos here in the greater Fort Lauderdale area including putting in impact windows and doors. This was BY FAR the best experience from start-to-finish I have ever had. And the sliding doors which are really large open and close the smoothest I've ever had! On behalf of my 85 year old father, my 55 year old special needs sister, our fur-baby Dolly...THANK YOU ALL for making this such a positive experience the entire way through. We will 100% recommend you to anyone looking for a reliable, reputable, fair priced company for high quality impact windows and doors! Christopher Tompkins
