Cost drivers

What makes impact doors cost more or less?

Nine factors set the number on your written quote. Door mechanism, opening width/height, and glass build move the price most.

  • Biggest lever

    01Door type & mechanism

A two-panel slider ($2,500–$3,500) or fiberglass entry door ($2,200–$5,500) uses simpler hardware than a double French door ($3,800–$7,000), bifold wall ($12,000–$20,000), or pivot door ($12,000–$22,000).

Sliders give the lowest installed cost per linear foot of glass opening.

  • Biggest lever

02Opening width, height & panel count

Each extra sliding panel adds about $600–$800 in laminated glass, frame, rollers, and track. Stepping up from 80-inch to 96-inch or 120-inch heights requires heavier aluminum profiles.

We measure every opening in person and match the panel layout (OX, OXO, OXXO) to your wall.

  • Raises price

    03Glass build, Low-E coating & tint

Impact doors use laminated heat-strengthened or tempered glass (typically 7/16" or 9/16" PVB or SGP interlayer). Adding Low-E solar control coating adds roughly 8%–15% to a glass door.

We always recommend Low-E on South Florida glass doors—it cuts solar heat gain and pays back over a 15–20+ year cycle.

  • Can raise price

    04Lockset & hardware (double bore vs. 3-point)

Standard hinged impact doors come with a double bore lockset (handle + deadbolt). Upgrading to a three-point multipoint lock adds about 10%–15% to the door's cost.

Most aftermarket smart deadbolts won't fit a 3-point lock, so choose your lock setup before we order the door.

  • Raises price

05HVHZ county & design pressure (DP)

Miami-Dade and Broward sit in the High-Velocity Hurricane Zone (180+ mph wind speeds per ASCE 7-22), requiring a Miami-Dade NOA or HVHZ-rated Florida Product Approval.

In the HVHZ, hinged exterior French and entry doors swing outward to seal tighter under positive wind pressure.

  • Can raise price

    06Brand & product line

We install ECO Window Systems, PGT, ES Windows, Custom Window Systems (CWS), BHI Doors, Therma-Tru, Amarr, and Clopay. Heavy-commercial or architectural series for tall spans cost more than standard residential series.

We compare approved lines across brands at your free measure so you don't overpay for a rating you don't need.

  • Can raise price

    07Threshold waterproofing & floor work

Sliders and bifolds offer raised water-rated sills or low/flush sills, and pivot doors require a recessed floor pivot box set into the concrete slab.

Exposed walls without a roof overhang should use a raised water-rated sill to block wind-driven rain.

  • Fixed fee

    08Old door tear-out & stucco/trim touch-up

An impact door is tested as one complete assembly (slab, frame, sill, and Tapcon/Ultracon anchors). We take out the old door and frame and touch up surrounding stucco or trim.

Included in your written Republic quote—never drop impact glass into an old non-impact door frame.

  • Fixed fee

09Building permit, NOC & HOA packet

Every exterior door replacement in South Florida requires a building permit, product approval drawings, and (over $5,000) a recorded Notice of Commencement (§713.135).

We pull the permit under CGC1533058 and prepare your HOA or condo board packet at no extra charge.

How can insurance, a grant and financing lower the cost?

Insurance

Wind-mitigation credit

Impact doors and garage doors count toward question 9 (Opening Protection) on Florida's wind-mitigation form, OIR-B1-1802. Full Class A.1 credit requires every window, exterior door, slider, and garage door to be hurricane-rated, applying to the windstorm portion of your premium (§627.0629).

Savings vary. Your insurer and policy decide.

Insurance savings

Grant

My Safe Florida Home

If you qualify, the state pays $2 for every $1 you pay, up to $10,000 (§215.5586), for exterior opening protection including entry doors and garage doors. Homestead, built before 2008, insured for $700,000 or less.

Example: on the $16,450 4-door package above, if approved, the grant could cover $10,000 and you'd pay $6,450. Must be approved before work starts.

Financing options

Ways to save

  1. Bundle doors with your impact window permit. Pulling one combined building permit and booking one installation crew for windows and doors cuts permit surcharges and mobilization costs.
  2. Choose a 2-panel or 3-panel slider over a folding wall. A three-panel impact slider ($3,100–$4,300 typical) costs a fraction of a multi-panel bifold system ($12,000–$20,000) while still opening wide to the patio.
  3. Stick with standard double-bore locks if using a smart deadbolt. Standard double-bore hardware is included in the base price and fits standard smart deadbolts; skipping the optional 3-point lock saves 10%–15%.
  4. Apply for the My Safe Florida Home grant before signing. Eligible Florida homesteads (built before 2008, insured <= $700,000) can receive $2 for every $1 spent up to $10,000 (§215.5586) on exterior opening protection.
  5. Include the garage door to capture the Class A.1 insurance tier. Replacing an unrated garage door ($2,800–$4,200 solid installed) often unlocks the highest opening-protection tier on form OIR-B1-1802.

Matching the door to the opening

  • Replacing an old aluminum slider that drags

A new impact sliding glass door ($2,500–$3,500 for two panels) replaces the pitted track, worn tandem rollers, and single-pane glass with a heavy-duty HVHZ frame and laminated glass.

    Sliding glass impact doors
  • Upgrading a front entry for curb appeal & privacy

Choose a solid or glass-insert fiberglass impact door ($2,200–$5,500) for maximum privacy, or a single ($2,800–$4,000) or double ($3,800–$7,000) French entry door for full daylight.

    French & front entry doors
  • Unlocking the full wind-mitigation discount

Question 9 on Florida form OIR-B1-1802 counts entry doors, patio sliders, and the garage door ($2,800–$4,200 solid). One unrated door or garage door drops the whole house out of Class A.1.

Questions

What do people ask about impact door cost?

How much do impact doors cost in South Florida in 2026?

Typical installed prices at Republic Windows, Doors & Roofing are $2,500–$3,500 for a two-panel sliding glass door (plus $600–$800 per extra panel), $2,800–$4,000 for a single French or front entry door, $3,800–$7,000 for a double French door, $2,200–$5,500 for a single fiberglass entry door, $2,800–$4,200 for a solid impact garage door, $12,000–$20,000 for a bifold door, and $12,000–$22,000 for a pivot door.

How much does an impact sliding glass door cost installed?

A standard two-panel impact sliding glass door (OX or XO) costs $2,500–$3,500 installed (average $3,000). Each additional panel adds about $600–$800, making a three-panel OXO slider roughly $3,100–$4,300 installed. Wide or tall 96-inch multi-track sliders can run $6,800–$12,000+ depending on design pressure and glass.

How much does an impact front entry door cost?

Impact front entry doors come in two main styles: a single fiberglass impact door is $2,200–$5,500 installed, while a full-glass French-style entry door is $2,800–$4,000 for a single leaf or $3,800–$7,000 for a double door. Adding impact sidelites or a transom typically brings custom entries to $4,200–$6,800+.

How much do impact pivot doors and bifold doors cost?

Standard residential impact pivot doors run $12,000–$22,000 installed, and multi-panel impact bifold doors run $12,000–$20,000 installed. Large custom architectural pivot or bifold systems—such as 10-to-12-foot tall panels or wide multi-panel lanai walls requiring structural header work—can reach $35,000–$40,000.

How much does a hurricane impact garage door cost?

A solid HVHZ impact-rated sectional garage door for a single or double car garage costs $2,800–$4,200 installed, including wind-load bracing, tracks, and hardware. Full-glass aluminum impact garage doors are custom-quoted after a free in-home measurement.

Which impact door brands does Republic install?

We install ECO Window Systems, PGT, ES Windows, Custom Window Systems (CWS), BHI Doors, Therma-Tru, Amarr, and Clopay. Because we aren't locked into a single manufacturer, we match the brand, frame series, and Miami-Dade NOA or Florida Product Approval to each opening's exact size and design pressure.

Does Low-E glass cost extra on impact doors, and is it worth it?

Yes. Adding a Low-E solar control coating typically adds about 8%–15% to the price of a glass impact door. Because sliding and French doors have huge glass surface areas, Republic always recommends Low-E in South Florida to cut solar heat gain, glare, and air-conditioning runtime over a 15–20+ year lifespan.

Do impact French and entry doors swing in or out in Miami-Dade and Broward?

In the High-Velocity Hurricane Zone (Miami-Dade and Broward counties), our hinged impact doors—French doors and front entry doors—swing outward so wind pressure pushes the slab tighter against the weatherstripping and jamb. Outside the HVHZ, fiberglass doors can also swing inward where their product approval allows.

What lock comes standard on an impact door, and what does a 3-point lock cost?

Standard hinged impact doors come with a double bore lockset (a handle plus a deadbolt). Upgrading to a three-point multipoint lock—which latches at the top, center, and bottom of the slab—typically adds 10%–15% to the door's price. Note that most aftermarket smart deadbolts only fit standard double-bore prep.

Are permit fees and old door removal included in Republic's price?

Yes. Our written quote is a complete installed price covering tear-out of the old door and frame, threshold waterproofing, HVHZ anchoring, stucco/trim touch-up around the opening, and the city or county building permit pulled under license CGC1533058.

Do impact doors qualify for the My Safe Florida Home $10,000 grant?

Yes. Exterior doors and garage doors are eligible opening-protection upgrades under the My Safe Florida Home program (Fla. Stat. §215.5586), which reimburses $2 for every $1 spent up to $10,000 for qualifying homesteads built before 2008 and insured for $700,000 or less. Grant approval must happen before work starts.

Will replacing only my doors lower my Florida homeowners insurance?

To earn the highest Opening Protection credit (Class A.1) on Florida's OIR-B1-1802 wind-mitigation form, every glazed opening—windows, glass doors, entry doors, and the garage door—must be hurricane-rated. If your windows are already impact-rated, upgrading your remaining non-impact doors and garage door unlocks the full credit.

Can I finance impact doors with $0 down?

Yes, subject to credit approval through Sunlight Financial, Service Finance, Upgrade, and Renew Financial. Plans include 12-month no-interest-if-paid-in-full (deferred interest), 10 years at 6.99% APR, and 20 years at 8.99% APR (for example, a $3,000 slider is about $27/mo over 20 years at 8.99% APR).

How long does impact door installation take?

Replacing a single entry door or patio slider typically takes a few hours on site, while a full house of doors takes one to two days once the building permit is issued and the custom-built doors arrive from the factory.
