Impact windows and doors in Naples

The Naples pier tide gauge logged 6.18 feet over MHHW before Ian destroyed it, and parts of the city flooded 6 to 9 feet deep. Design speeds fall between the 160 and 170 mph contours, §52-61 tints beach-view glass, and our installed average is $800–$1,800 a window.

Naples sits on the Gulf with Naples Bay behind it. Its window checklist asks for design pressures by speed, exposure, and zone.

The city publishes a design wind speed page, and the checklist wants pressures to match it.

Why impact glass matters after Ian

Beachfront and bay homes both took water in Ian. Impact glass keeps the openings shut if wind-borne debris strikes before the surge arrives.

Glass within sight of the beach must meet the city's turtle rule, so the tint and the lamination are picked together.

Windows and doors for Naples homes

Older cottages near the Historic District, beachfront estates, and bay-side condos are typical. Many need custom sizes.

Our hinged impact doors (French and entry doors) swing out. Sliding glass doors and garage doors don't swing.

My Safe Florida Home and your wind-mitigation form

If you qualify for My Safe Florida Home, the state pays $2 for every $1 you pay, up to $10,000, after the program's free wind-mitigation visit (Fla. Stat. §215.5586). How the program works.

Impact windows and doors count as opening protection, Question 9 on the state's wind-mitigation form, OIR-B1-1802. A licensed inspector fills it out after the work, and your insurer sets the discount.

What wind speed applies in Naples?

Roughly 164 to 168 mph depending on the block, from our reading of the adopted contours.

What does the checklist ask for?

A floor plan with each opening's size, operating style, maker, and model, plus design pressures.

What is the turtle rule?

Glass within sight of the beach must meet §52-61, at 45% visible light transmittance or lower.

Do historic homes need extra review?

Work on a recognized historic building can need a Certificate of Appropriateness from the Historic Preservation Board.

What is the permit fee?

$0.79 per square foot of opening, plus plan review.

What did Ian do in Naples?

Water stood 6 to 9 ft deep in parts of the city, and the pier gauge was lost.

Do hurricane windows lower insurance?

Likely. Send your insurer the 1802 report and ask for the opening-protection credit.

Past $5,000 in direct contract value; Naples won't book the first visit without it.

What does a single-hung cost?

Yes. Our hinged impact doors (French and entry doors) swing out. Sliding glass doors and garage doors don't swing.

The fine print

The rules

Wind and missile rules

Collier County is outside the HVHZ. Its adopted Risk Category II map runs from 150 to 170 mph in 1 mph lines, and at 150 mph or more the code makes the whole county a wind-borne debris region.

  • Up to 30 feet: the large-missile test of ASTM E1996.
  • Above 30 feet: the small-missile test of the same standard.
  • Each unit needs a Florida Product Approval, or a Miami-Dade NOA, covering its size and design pressure.
