Impact windows and doors in Palm Beach County

Palm Beach County sits outside the High-Velocity Hurricane Zone, yet its wind map runs from 150 to 170 mph, so every opening falls in the wind-borne debris region and needs impact-rated glass or protection. We install Florida-approved impact windows and doors in all 39 municipalities, at $800–$1,800 per window installed on average.

The numbers behind a Palm Beach window

Palm Beach County homes

We know Palm Beach County homes

The county reaches from Jupiter Inlet south to the Hillsboro Canal and west to the Lake Okeechobee shore. Island estates, gated golf communities, and farm towns all fall under one code with different wind numbers.

Each job starts with the contour for your parcel. We pick an approved unit for every opening, then file with whichever of the 39 municipal departments, or the county, covers your lot.

Impact window and door cost across Palm Beach County

From Lehigh to the islands, our Lee installs run $800–$1,800 a window, and the common single-hung lands near $1,100.

Oversized and specialty openings can top $3,000. Average prices by size and door type follow, and the estimator lower on the page gives a fast number.

Windows and doors for every Palm Beach County home

Single-hung and fixed picture units fit most houses here, and casements suit rooms that need full airflow. Waterfront estates often call for tall fixed glass.

We hang French pairs, sliders, fiberglass entries, and garage doors countywide. Our hinged impact doors (French and entry doors) swing out. Sliding glass doors and garage doors don't swing.

My Safe Florida Home and your wind-mitigation form

If you qualify for My Safe Florida Home, the state pays $2 for every $1 you pay, up to $10,000, after the program's free wind-mitigation visit (Fla. Stat. §215.5586). How the program works.

Impact windows and doors count as opening protection, Question 9 on the state's wind-mitigation form, OIR-B1-1802. A licensed inspector fills it out after the work, and your insurer sets the discount.

Questions

Palm Beach County impact window questions

Is Palm Beach County in the High-Velocity Hurricane Zone?

No. The Florida Building Code limits the HVHZ to Miami-Dade and Broward. Palm Beach designs to its own wind contours instead.

What wind speed applies to my Palm Beach County home?

It depends on the contour: 170 mph across the coast and eastern cities, 160 or 150 mph near Lake Okeechobee, for a Risk Category II home.

Do I need impact glass everywhere in the county?

Yes, or approved shutters. Every contour is above 140 mph, so the whole county is a wind-borne debris region where glazed openings need protection.

Which impact test applies to my windows?

Glass within 30 feet of the ground must pass the large-missile level of ASTM E1996. Higher glass, such as upper condo floors, uses the small-missile level.

Is a Florida Product Approval enough, or do I need a Miami-Dade NOA?

A Florida Product Approval is enough here. A Miami-Dade NOA is also accepted, as long as it covers the opening's size and design pressure.

Who files the permit for my job?

We do. Inside a city, town, or village we file with its building department; off city limits we file with the county Building Division through ePZB.

What is my role in the permit?

Just signatures. Our office files, books each inspector visit, and follows it to inspection approval.

Do hurricane windows differ from impact windows?

No, they're two names for laminated, impact-rated units. In this county, check that each one carries a Florida Product Approval or NOA.

Which way do impact doors open in Palm Beach County?

Hinged ones open out. Our hinged impact doors (French and entry doors) swing out. Sliding glass doors and garage doors don't swing.

How much do impact doors cost installed?

Expect $2,800–$4,000 for one French door, $3,800–$7,000 for a pair, and $2,500–$3,500 for a two-panel slider, with about $600–$800 for each panel beyond two.

What does the Building Code Advisory Board do?

It advises the county and its municipalities on local code amendments and promotes uniform enforcement. The County Commission can adopt its recommendations countywide.

Does the county have its own building code amendments?

Yes. Its amendments to the 2023 Florida Building Code took effect December 31, 2023, for unincorporated areas and cities using county plan review.

How do I find the exact wind speed for my address?

The county's Wind Speeds page links the Risk Category II map and a GIS lookup. We read it for your parcel before sizing anything.

How did Hurricane Wilma hit Palm Beach County?

Its eye covered the entire county on October 24, 2005. Palm Beach International gusted to 101 mph, and the storm exited near Palm Beach Gardens as a Category 2.

Do insurers discount impact windows?

Florida law makes rate filings include wind-mitigation discounts, opening protection among them. The credit is set from your OIR-B1-1802 form.

Is My Safe Florida Home open right now?

Yes. On October 20, 2026 its help page listed applications as open; homeowners start with a free wind-mitigation visit, and awards top out at $10,000.

Can an HOA or condo board block impact windows?

Not ones that meet its specs. §718.113(5) and §720.3035(6) let boards set the look but not refuse code-compliant protection.
