Why impact glass matters after Ian

Bay-side homes saw surge move up canals and creeks. Impact glass closes the envelope so a broken pane doesn't let wind into the house.

Homes with major flood damage may need the village's substantial damage affidavit before other work.

Windows and doors for Estero homes

Gated communities of block homes with lanai sliders are typical. Bay-side lots add wide fixed units toward the water.

Our hinged impact doors (French and entry doors) swing out. Sliding glass doors and garage doors don't swing.

The rules

Wind and missile rules

Lee County is outside the HVHZ. Its Risk Category II map has 150, 160, and 170 mph zones, and the whole county is a wind-borne debris region.

  • Up to 30 feet: the large-missile test of ASTM E1996.
  • Above 30 feet: the small-missile test of the same standard.
  • Each unit needs a Florida Product Approval, or a Miami-Dade NOA, covering its size and design pressure.
