A fixed impact window doesn't open, which allows the largest sizes, picture windows, and architectural shapes like arches and transoms in laminated hurricane glass. It gives the biggest view for the money, and a 37×50 fixed window from Republic is about $900 installed (average; size and glass change it).
Often lower per square foot than operable windows.

What we install
Fixed glass is for the view. With no sash to move, it can go bigger than any window that opens, and it comes in shapes such as arches, circles, and trapezoids. It gives no air, so most rooms pair it with a casement or roller.
It doesn't open. Fixed glass includes big picture windows and architectural shapes such as arches, half-rounds, trapezoids, and transoms.
A 37×50 fixed window is about $900 installed (average). Lifetime labor warranty for the original owner. It doesn't transfer if you sell. The estimate is free, and we pull the permit.
Miami-Dade TAS 201/202/203; 175 mph Miami-Dade, 170 mph Broward; large-missile glass below 30 ft.
Condo or HOA? A board can't refuse a conforming impact window: §718.113(5) covers condos and §720.3035(6) covers HOAs. Over $5,000, a recorded notice of commencement is required (§713.135). See Florida approvals and NOAs.
Yes. A picture window is a large fixed window that doesn't open. Fixed glass also covers architectural shapes such as arches, half-rounds, trapezoids, and transoms, and it's often set beside casements or rollers so the room still gets air without losing the view.
Do fixed impact windows cost less?
Per square foot of glass, usually yes, because there's no sash or operating hardware. A very large or shaped unit can still cost more in total, because it needs thicker glass. For example, a 37 by 50 inch fixed window is about $900 installed (average).
How big can a fixed impact window be?
Much bigger than a window that opens. PGT lists its aluminum PW7720A fixed picture window at flange sizes up to 42 square feet, with 7/16-inch laminated glass and design pressures up to +90/-130 psf. Larger walls of glass are built from several units joined with approved mulls.
Can impact windows come in arches and other shapes?
Yes. PGT's architectural line, the AR7720A, makes fixed impact glass in shapes such as half circles, quarter circles, eyebrows, gothic arches, octagons, ovals, trapezoids, and full circles. Shaped units are custom sizes, so they're measured for the opening rather than picked from a standard list.
Does a window that doesn't open still need impact glass?
Yes. In Florida's windborne debris regions, the code protects glazed openings, not just the ones that open, so fixed glass needs impact glass or an approved cover like any other window. Below 30 feet it has to pass the large-missile test, which is the one most houses need.
Can a bedroom have only a picture window?
No. Florida code requires at least one operable emergency escape opening in every sleeping room, and fixed glass can't open. A bedroom with a picture window also needs a casement, single-hung, or roller sized to the escape rule, or a door that leads outside.
What glass rules apply to beachfront picture windows?
On the beach, sea turtle lighting rules can apply. Florida's model ordinance calls for tinted glass with 45% or less inside-to-outside light transmittance on seaward and shore-perpendicular glass of new construction, and local ordinances vary. PGT offers glass options that meet the Sea Turtle Protection Code.
Will a big picture window heat up the room?
It can, since big glass lets in a lot of sun, so the glass package matters. PGT offers Low-E coatings such as EnergyShield, laminated insulating glass, and tints such as bronze and gray. We'll talk through the glass for west- and south-facing walls during the estimate.

Outstanding job! The installation was completed flawlessly. The team was friendly, punctual, efficient. Kept the are clean throughout the installation. We are very satisfied with the results and highly recommend their service.
The republic team was wonderful from the very beginning to the end. It started with Ryan who was consulting us at the start from the windows type and explained everything very throughly and with patience. He helped us choose the best things for us and was able to help us with pricing as well. Over all Ryan helped us with all the information we needed and answered every question we had when we had them. Now after all contracts/paper work was done They said it would take three days for the installation team to finish all the doors and windows. And they did indeed finish in those three days has they said! Yassel from the installation team were even kind enough to to start off with the rooms of our choice. They were very fast polite and kind. They cleaned everything after themselves making sure to leave no rubble behind. They helped us with our windows and our door frames helping us fix everything. Overall they were fantastic. Very helpful, respectful, and kind! They really did go above and beyond and helped us every step of the way. And I would refer them for any installation of windows and doors l. Thank you Republic team!
Had a great experience working with Daniel and the entire team at Republic Windows & Doors. We worked together for almost 3 years, and throughout that time their communication, professionalism, and organization were always excellent.
The team was clear, responsive, and easy to collaborate with on every project. It was truly a pleasure working alongside such a dedicated and professional company.
Wishing Daniel and the team continued success!
I had an outstanding experience with Republic Windows and Doors. They installed seven impact windows for me, and every step was top-notch. Ryan, the salesman, was extremely professional during his initial visit—he explained everything clearly, from employee insurance to the high-end tools they use, like premium screws and caulking. Then, Matt and Carlos took over the installation, and they were exceptional—they demonstrated an extraordinary level of dedication, precision, and stamina, ensuring every detail was perfect. Their work ethic was truly outstanding, and they took pride in every step of the process. Plus, the pricing was surprisingly affordable for the quality they delivered. I highly recommend them for any window or door project!
From start to finish, the team of Republic Windows, Doors, & Roofing truly exceeded ALL of our expectations! We had 4 companies bid to replace our condo's sliding doors and windows. Their pricing was on the lower end of competitive BUT not the lowest price.
From the onset, the interaction we had with their sales manager, Ryan Didato, was terrific. He was on-time, patient, took his time to walk/talk us through everything, explained the process from start-to-finish, and was available to answer calls/questions I had following our initial interaction. He also didn't "hard sell" us AT ALL which I 100%++++ appreciate. He's the definition of a professional and has the patience of a Saint.
After signing our contract, their office team including Debbie, Yiseth, and company took care of everything including submission of plans to HOA and the City of Pompano Beach. They continued to keep us informed regarding ordering windows, etc., as our windows and doors are not standard = all custom. Thank you!
Next up: installation. Matheus was the lead on our installation working in tandem with Carlos. WOW! Responsible, respectful, and do they know what they are doing!!! They also covered EVERYTHING before starting to help minimize concrete, drywall, and wood dust. Yes...you will still have some but did they ever help alleviate a lot of clean-up work. They also cleaned up when they finished each day. They didn't take break-after-break...they remained focused and steady = they didn't rush. They did it RIGHT! Plus Matheus has an INCREDIBLE play list on his boom-box that we all enjoyed!!
To close, I have remodeled 6 different homes/condos here in the greater Fort Lauderdale area including putting in impact windows and doors. This was BY FAR the best experience from start-to-finish I have ever had. And the sliding doors which are really large open and close the smoothest I've ever had!
On behalf of my 85 year old father, my 55 year old special needs sister, our fur-baby Dolly...THANK YOU ALL for making this such a positive experience the entire way through. We will 100% recommend you to anyone looking for a reliable, reputable, fair priced company for high quality impact windows and doors!
